I brought my faulty Obbie personally to Vienna expecting the service to last couple of days or weeks, and to pick it up on my next visit. To my great surprise the unit was fixed the very same day (there were 3 issues to fix, so there was work to be done), tested for couple of hours, and now, one day later, I have beautifully working Matrix back home. I even got upgraded eprom with some bugfixes! Their professionalism is really on high level and I can recommend them to anybody. Thank you!

after 20 years sitting near the sea in a wearhouse Virtual Music brought my synth back to life. the synth needed a fix to CPU card / main osc board/ voice card / tuning ... all was done very fast..by a very bad mistake i installed back the boards 3&4 wrong :( and alexander helped me what ic's could make the new errors .. fixd it in my work and now i can confirm its the best synth i got & heard :))) wonderfull servicing. highly recommended !!! cheers isaac levi

This is my second time using Virtual Music for repairs on my PPG Wave 2.3's. Alexander has handled both instances wonderfully - couldn't ask for better. From beginning to end, he was and continues to be communicative, guiding each step of the process from shipping, arrival in Vienna, updates while on the bench, a very thorough completion record, and shipping back to me. He also assisted with other issues not explicitly covered under the repair. (As an aside, he also has some hard to find replacement part gems for PPG units, Synthex, etc, as well as the hard-to-find Prophet VS data slider.) There are so few repair shops these days that are trustworthy, and even those that have a decent reputation have nowhere near the level of customer service that VM/Alexander provides. There isn't a center within 200 miles I would trust for face-to-face work, so I have ended up establishing relationships with specialty centers across the US and across the globe. I wouldn't send my PPG, OSCar, or Synthex anywhere but to Alexander. There is nothing like having an expert address the sometimes obscure issues these older synths develop. He's efficient, reasonably priced, and well worth all the positive words - from one repair shop owner to another...

First I thought there was no hope for my good old Yamaha DX7/II FD. Almost 26 years of joy and inspiration, but then this marvellous synthesizer came to a sudden death. Well, almost. The good news is that my faithful servant could unexpectedly be resurrected by the Virtual Music Team here in Vienna. It only took few hours of special treatment and regeneration to cure my friend which is already back again! Everything works as before, but even looking better than ever! nach jahrzehntelangem dienst in meinem studio ohne probleme hat mein fireface nunmehr zum zweiten mal innerhalb von relativ kurzer zeit zicken gemacht. abermals konnte mir alexander helfen: die störgeräusche auf allen kanälen und verzerrungen konnten auf defekte bauteile des netzteils zurückgeführt werden. alexander hat diese ausgetauscht (und durch solche mit 4fach so langer lebensdauer ersetzt!) und schon funktioniert alles wieder. das fireface klingt wie am ersten tag und aufgrund besserer bauteile wird das hoffentlich noch länger so bleiben. danke, alex!

My PPG didn't work at all anymore. I sent the cards to Alexander (including the power supply card in a very bad condition). He solved all the problems quickly for a reasonable price; my PPG is now back to life again. Very good professional service and communication. The 8.3 operating system is also really nice , you can store and recall sounds by sysex, no more tapes problem..... If you have any problem with a PPG, this is the place to go.

I bought a beautiful mint EMU SP1200 (early version) but it had some problems cause it was never used since 1987. First i want to fix the problems by myself but i saw that the SP1200 is way more complicated than i thought. I contacted Alexander and ask him to fix the machine... After 2 days (!) he called me and told me that he had fixed the machine. The Problems were really difficult to find and you have to know a lot about digital electronics to fix this. I was really surprised how fast and good he fixed the SP1200. If you bring your vintage Synth, Drumbox, Sampler etc. to Alexander it is in the best hands. He has the same passion and love for those beautiful vintage machines like we musicians and collectors. Fast, good price and nice person - super !- i am very happy !

Couple of months ago I acquired a Synthex on a very popular auction web site... It was supposed to be "in great condition" but as usual with this website, there were some issues with the synth even if the seller at it serviced certainly by the best synth tech in the UK. It's just because also I am very very picky with my synth. I found 5 problems, 1 obvious, 3 somehow hidden and a 5th one intermittent. The first one was fixed by an engineer in Paris. It was a 1 voice that sounded 7 octave higher below a certain octave on 1 DCO. After this been fixed, the 3 other ones became more obvious and I decided to try Virtual Music (Vienna, Austria); Alexander Guelfenburg has a Synthex test bench and doesn't need your whole synth; just the DCO boards. I sent the 4 DCO boards after having insulated the 3 problems to the 4 boards. Great professionalism was appreciated and turn around was very quick (2 weeks). The 3 problems were "ghost" voices on certain voices (you could hear - very damped in the background - a 2nd voice playing on some voices). Note that I did not mention the 5th problems because intermittent is always time-consuming. Alexander found the 5th problem himself and fixed it ! (it was a VCF Decay that was sometimes too fast on 1 voice; quite difficult to hear and identify). I'm not a pro musician, but "hobbyist synth sound designer" for the past 25 years. Please note that Virtual Music had also serviced a Synthex from a very popular French musician. Overall I should recommend Virtual Music for their professionalism, quick turn-around and fair price.

Als großer Fan von Vintage-Analogsynthies habe ich vor einiger Zeit einen alten Matrix 6 erworben, zwar günstig, aber auch recht vergammelt. Sämtliche Funktionstasten arbeiteten nur bei extrem starkem Druck, das Gehäuse hatte deutliche Gebrauchsspuren und - eigentlich das Schlimmste - einzelne Töne klangen deutlich anders bis gar nicht, jedoch bei jedem Sound andere. Bei so einem Fehler ist schon allein die Diagnose schwierig. Durch Recherchen im Internet fand ich die Firma Virtual Music. Nun kurzum: Alex hat sämtliche Funktionstasten erneuert, die Pulsbreitenmodulation justiert (denn das war der Fehler) und das Gehäuse restauriert, alles in kürzester Zeit. Jetzt sieht der Matrix nicht nur aus wie neu, sondern spielt sich auch so. Es ist beruhigend zu wissen, das DER Keyboard-Doktor direkt vor meiner Haustüre sitzt und alle meine Probleme lösen kann und will. Danke!!!

Since 2001, my PPG Wave 2.3 stopped making sounds. I mean, completely! Not any of the outputs & it was really distressing. But I left it on my 'to do' list. Then I did a trip overseas, so I carried the internal boards with me to Berlin & posted it to Austria. When I returned from my holiday, Alexander had fixed the soundboards & sent them back. I also asked for the V8.3 roms to be installed. I put it all back together & every thing works again. It was SO wonderful to hear the Big Blue Box sound again, after a silence of 6+ years! I took my PPG Wave 2.3 to two different technicians; one in Perth, Australia & the other in Adelaide, Australia. Both of them said, "Too Hard!". It took Alex less time to fix my machines problems, than the shortest time taken by either of the other two "general synth technicians". He's your man to get the job done! 10/10

I had my PPG serviced with a battery replacement and some small problem with a analog multiplexer on the analog input board. Virtual music was very helpful, clear and efficient with the repair. The ppg requires niche expertise and not just any old hammer. I can recommend Virtual music as having the means to repair test and service your ppg gear. Also the sotware looks very cool and its amazing to save the sounds to omputer even interchange banks between the ppg plugin! Many thanks for this. I definately recommend installing this upgrade!

Mein schon in die Jahre gekommenes E-Piano wies schon einige Gebrauchsspuren auf, wodurch eine Taste maximale Velocity produzierte. Ein Anruf bei Alexander genügte und wir hatte einen Termin vereinbart. Die Reparatur, die sich aufgrund des hohen Alters des E-Pianos als schwierig erwies (es gibt dafür keine Ersatzteile mehr), erfolgte in kürzester Zeit und wurde von Alexander mit großem Bemühen und Kreativität erledigt. Auch der Preis für die Reparatur war absolut fair und Spitze! Vielen Dank nochmals für die tolle und schnelle Arbeit und ich kann Virtual-Music bestens empfehlen. Karl Prossinger.

Mein Prophet VS fühlt sich wieder an wie neu, und sieht dazu noch so aus, nachdem Herr Guelfenburg die Gehäusemodifikation durchgeführt hat. Klingt zwar wie ein Werbetext, ist aber so. Ich habe das Instrument persönlich abgeholt, und kann jedem nur raten, das auch zu tun. Überaus freundlicher und entgegenkommender Kontakt. (Sogar ein gedeckter Frühstückstisch). My PPG 2.3 is about 20 years old and needed a replacement display. After going through the options with Alexander, we decided on an LCD type from China. Alexander successfully modified the unit and gave excellent instructions on how to remove old display and fit new one. The result is excellent !! Ich habe mir einen PPG Wave 2.2 gekauft welcher zu meiner Überraschung – wurde vom Verkäufer nicht angeführt – eine Aufrüstung auf einen Wave 2.3 erhalten hatte. Der PPG hatte jedoch einen größeren Defekt – was vom Verkäufer auch nicht angeführt wurde. Vor allem funktionierte eine Stimme nicht. Die Rekonstruktion der Fehlerquelle durch Alexander ergab, dass nicht primär eine Stimme defekt war, sondern dass jener Techniker, welcher die Aufrüstung des PPG Wave 2.2 durchgeführt hatte, dabei technische Fehler begangen hatte. Der PPG hat dadurch insgesamt nicht funktionieren können. Alexander hat die Sache sehr schnell in Griff bekommen, obwohl sich einer der Fehler sogar erst nach dem Auslöten eines IC’s zeigte. Der PPG Wave 2.3 funktioniert nach der Reparatur, dem Update des Operating System auf V8.3 und einem Service nun einwandfrei. Alexander zeigte sich in dieser Sache als höchst kompetenter Techniker. Besonders hervorzuheben ist die sehr hohe Servicequalität, welche sich zusätzlich zur fachlichen Kompetenz auch im gesamten Organisationsablauf und in der gesamten Kommunikation zeigte. Habe das Keyboardupgrade Kit für meinen Minimoog bestellt, blitzschnell erhalten und eiligst eingebaut, Synthi angeschmissen - Himmel!!!!! Was für ein herrliches Spielgefühl!!! Das Ding läßt sich besser spielen als mein Voyager, ein wirklich sahnemäßiges Anschlagverhalten mit klar definiertem Druckpunkt. Absolut kein Geklapper mehr. Ich bin völlig von den Socken. Ich werde NIE wieder Gummis durch Gummis ersetzen, Eure Lösung ist erstklassig und bei genauerem Nachrechnen tatsachlich auch noch günstig. Tausend Dank für diese Art der Tastaturverbesserung! Ich habe 2 Waves 2.3, eine EVU mit V. 8.3 modifiziert und die Tastaturen mit dem Kit bei beiden Waves restauriert und die Displays wieder "leuchtend" gemacht. War zwar etwas Arbeit und Fummelei, hat aber alles wunderbar funktioniert dank der guten "Bauanleitung" und alles arbeitet wieder so wie Palm sich das einmal dachte - vor vielen Jahren. Ohne H. Guelfenburg u. H. Seib wären viele PPGs einfach nur Schrott. Es braucht einfach Idealisten, die solche tollen Geräte weiterentwickeln. Ich bin begeistert !!!

Ich kann mich nur den positiven Einträgen anschliessen. Herr Guelfenburg ist nett, kompentent und zuverlässig. Ich bin durch das Suchen nach "Ensoniq ESQ-1 Reparatur" o.ä. mit Google auf diese Seite gekommen und habe dann telefonischen Kontakt aufgenommen, da mein ESQ-1 kratzige/rauschige Nebengeräusche machte und Probleme mit schwankenden Werten hatte (Ursache für beides war eine fehlerhafte Stromversorgung, wie sich dann herausstellte). Herr Guelfenburg hat den ESQ-1 nicht nur 'spontan' über's Vorweihnachswochenende(!) repariert, sondern mir zusätzlich noch zwei gute Tipps gegeben: a) Reinigen der Tastaturkontakte mit Isopropylalkohol - funktioniert scheinbar besser als mit meinem Kontaktspray b) Sternförmige Stromkabelführung zur Vermeidung von Brummschleifen. Ich bin mir sicher, wenn ich nochmal ein Problem mit einem Gerät habe, wende ich mich sofort gerne wieder an Herrn Guelfenburg und empfehle ihn hiermit auch gerne weiter! :-) Danke und Beste Grüße aus Graz!

ich stieß eher zufällig, bei der www-suche nach einem emu-service-center auf virtual-music, doch seit ich dort eine reparatur in auftrag gab bin ich wirklich sehr begeistert. eigentlich dachte ich, ich würde meinen emulator2 nie repariert bekommen denn die wenigen, die sich heute noch mit emulatoren auskennen, machten mir nicht gerade sonderlich viele hoffnungen. bei alexander gulfenberg war das ganz anders, er ging weit weniger pessimistisch an die sache heran und machte mir dennoch keine übertriebenen versprechungen. wir haben das problem erst über email erörtert und später am telefon genauer besprochen. um kosten einzusparen machte ER mir den vorschlag, ich sollte nur eine ganz bestimmte platine einschicken und beriet mich auch über deren ausbau+sicheren versand. es stellte sich heraus, das das problem genau dort lag, wo er es vermutet hatte und ich bekam kurze zeit später die reparierte platine zurück. der emulator2 läuft tadellos und ich bin restlos begeistert... ich werde keine antelle mehr suchen, wenn ich irgend ein problem mit einer meiner elektronischen instrumente habe - dieser mann ist ein genie - er beherrscht sein handwerk meisterhaft und ist ein richtig netter kerl :-)! noch ein aspekt, der mich sehr begeisterte war der unglaublich günstige preis für die reparatur der E2 - ich erhielt zusätzlich eine genaue auflistung über was im zuge der reparatur an der platine gemacht wurde, wie sie geprüft wurde, welche fehler vorlagen und welche teile ausgetauscht wurden . das nenne ich service! ich möchte mich nochmals recht herzlich bedanken - es ist zwar nicht gerade eine freude, wenn equipment kaputt geht aber es wird mir in der zukunft immer eine freude sein herrn guelfenberg damit zu betrauen! dankedankedanke - simon
